1997 mechanism for wheat supply sought
PESHAWAR: All Pakistan Flourmills Association (APFA) demanded on Monday the government restore 1997 mechanism for wheat supply to the province and FATA to overcome ata crisis. The APFA said the government ended subsidy on wheat at the behest of the World Bank and other world financial institutions thus making life of the people miserable. In a press release, APFA Provincial Chairman Muhammad Sadiq said the government allowed flourmills to buy wheat on their own from markets, a decision which did not help as Frontier, Balochistan and Sindh provinces did not have enough produce which led to wheat crisis in the provinces. While, Sadiq added, the Punjab benefited as it produced wheat in abundance. staff report
